The Virtual Grid Server (VGS) service is based on AppLogic Grid OS and is effectively a pre-Grid environment designed for customers who plan to start small and scale up over time. Like many virtual private servers on the market, the service includes part of the resources of a physical server (or node) to which you are provided with root access and can install your own applications.

However, the key differences between our VGS and a standard virtual private server offering are what make all the difference:

• Server resources (CPU, Memory, disk space) are ring-fenced for you, not shared. This protects you from "hungry neighbours"
• One VGS can work alone or in parallel with other VGSs across our Grid
• All VGS data exists in parallel on at least two Grid nodes to ensure high data integrity standards
• Scaling from a VGS to your own Grid (or vice versa) is simply a matter of demanding more (or less) resources and configuring your virtual infrastructure. The Grid OS will then migrate your applications automatically avoiding costly downtime.
